Cuba’s ambassador to France denounces longstanding US blockade

Cuba’s Ambassador to France, Otto Vaillant denounced the longstanding blockade imposed by the United States on his homeland. 

During a round table discussion, Vaillant underscored the enduring economic, commercial, and financial barriers that Cuba has faced for over six decades.

Vaillant emphasized Cuba’s unwavering commitment to self-determination, portraying the island nation’s struggle against the economic giant as a testament to resilience.

Historical context: The triumph of revolution

Reflecting on the pivotal moment of January 1, 1959, Vaillant highlighted the significance of the Cuban Revolution in ushering in an era of sovereignty and independence. 

However, he lamented the persistent hostility from the United States, which refuses to acknowledge Cuba’s legitimate aspirations.

Vaillant elucidated the profound impact of the blockade on Cuban society, describing it as a relentless assault endured for generations. 

Despite the adversity, Cuba steadfastly advances its distinctive social project while upholding its commitment to international solidarity.

Vincent Boulet, Director of International Relations at the CPF, echoed Vaillant’s condemnation of the US blockade and its inclusion in the State Sponsors of Terrorism list.

Boulet reaffirmed the organization’s solidarity with Cuba, citing a recent campaign spearheaded by French communists to support Cuba in the face of extraterritorial consequences of the blockade.
