Rhode Island Airport Corporation announces public safety initiatives

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Airport Corporation said that it has initiatives to optimize the T.F. Green International Airport’s Public Safety Department.

The corporation said that it was in the process of recruiting a new vice president of public safety that had an “extensive airport experience and background and have served as and been certified as both a police officer and firefighter.”

The initiative also included the recruitment of a manager from an outside agency who will oversee the day-to-day security operations beginning in April.

Senior Vice President of Operations Duc Nguyen will also be deputized, and the Rhode Island State Police will station an additional trooper at the TSA checkpoint.

The corporation added that the RIAC Police Department has a starting salary of $84,443 for certified police officers, which will increase to $90,455 in June.

ABC 6 News reached out to Rhode Island Council 94, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO and Local 2873, RI Airport Corporation, which represent the public safety workers at the airport, for comment and is awaiting a response.
